PACHÉCO, ROYAL MINT

For this project, we were asked to 3D scan the entire building and part of its immediate surroundings in colour, and to deliver a reduced point cloud and viewer, from which a 3D model would then be made.

The building comprises six floors, all with different layouts and uses.

Due to the many corridors, separate rooms and limited accessibility of the building, the challenge in this project was to maintain a high level of accuracy. To ensure this, we used a total station to create a network of control measurement points in and around the building. This was done to link the inside and outside, without any deviation.

The processed measurements produced a point cloud as well as a panoramic viewer for the site. In the viewer, markers were placed to show important structural elements from the 3D scan.

OUTCOME:

- 1 week of scanning

- 1,303 set-ups

- A point cloud of 1,600 GB, containing44,817,280,366 points
=> Reduced to 15 point clouds of ± 2 GB each
